The Commonwealth Education Trust holds the assets of the
former Imperial/Commonwealth Institute Trust. Its Deed of Trust
provides for:
- four UK resident private citizens to be Trustees
The Trustees are Miss Judith Hanratty CVO OBE, The Rt Hon the Lord Fellowes GCB GCVO QSO, Mr john (Algy) Cluff and Mrs Helen Robinson OBE
- a qualified accountant to be Secretary
The Secretary is Mrs Judy Curry ACA (Chief Executive of the Trust)
- three High Commissioners representing the Commonwealth ex-officio to be advisers
The High Commissioners are from the countries providing the Chairperson in Office of the Commonwealth, the immediate past Chairperson and the Chairperson elect
- the member countries of the Commonwealth to constitute a Council
The countries are represented by their High Commissioners and the Council is chaired by the Secretary General. It is informed from time to time of the educational activities of the Trust.
Objects
The Purpose of the Commonwealth Education Trust is to advance education in the Commonwealth
In pursuit of the Purpose:
- The Trust invests its resources to ensure that it can achieve its Purpose in a long term and sustainable manner
- The Trust observes any declarations made by the Commonwealth, the United Kingdom or the United Nations regarding the investment of funds in any country or political territory
- The Trust allocates its resources by way of beneficial investments to advancing primary and secondary education and the training and professional development of teachers in the Commonwealth in order thereby to enhance the opportunities for children in the Commonwealth to develop the skills necessary to contribute to the economic and social development of their communities.
